Father John T. Howren was born September 12, 1964 in Charlotte, NC. The family moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1975, and then in 1980 they moved to the Atlanta area where they were members of Corpus Christi Parish in Stone Mountain.
After some academic studies at West Georgia College and Georgia State University, Fr. John became an active member of the Cathedral of Christ the King, then becoming a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Attending Saint Meinrad College Seminary and School of Theology, he earned his BA, MA, and MDiv there. On June 1, 1996 Fr. John was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Donoghue.
He was first assigned as Parochial Vicar at St. James the Apostle for two years. Subsequently he was assigned as Pastor to St. Gerard Majella, followed by pastorates at St. Augustine of Hippo, St. Brendan the Navigator and St. John Neumann. After assisting at the Cathedral of Christ the King, he took up the role of Pastor here at St. Lawrence.
Parochial Vicar: Rev. Mark Thomas
Ordained to the priesthood was June 27, 2015, Father Mark previously worked as a public school teacher (History), coach and administrator. That career took him from Fulton county (Lakeshore, Westlake and Creekside High Schools) to Raleigh, North Carolina to Highlands, North Carolina and New Orleans. Baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Church as a young child in Michigan, it was not until his early 40s, after having served in various Church Ministries, that thoughts of a possible call to the priesthood first started entering his prayer life and he soon entered Notre Dame Seminary. Father Mark previously served at St. John Vianney in Lithia Springs, Georgia.
