Did you sign your child up for sports next year?
Is your child taking lessons over the summer to improve his or her musical ability? Have you signed your child up for PSR so as to continue his or her journey of faith?
If so, good for you, good for your child.
If no or not yet, see if any of these top three reasons apply:
1. We can’t afford the registration fee. Financial hardship is not a valid excuse for not enrolling your child in PSR. We offer fee payment schedules as well as need based scholarships. Requests are kept confidential, but you do need to request assistance.
2. With our family’s schedule and the rising price of gas, we won’t be able to attend the scheduled class times. If you truly cannot attend the scheduled sessions, then you can home school your child. Your child does miss out on the social interaction with their peers at church but with the help of a textbook, parents, who are the primary religious educators anyway, can teach their child at home so he or she don’t miss out on faith formation.
3. Last but not least, parents will state that their child didn’t like the class or their catechists and doesn’t want to go anymore. This is especially a problem for the 3rd through 5th grades where there is no sacramental preparation required. I don’t know of many families who would let their minor children decide if they are going to go to public school or not. Parents have a moral obligation to raise their child in the faith. If your child is having a problem with PSR, talk to the staff rather than opt not to continue classes.
