Why do Catholics do that? Have you ever felt a desire to deepen your understanding of our faith? Wanted to grow closer to the Lord? One sure fire way to learn more is, ironically, to teach. Yes! Many, many catechists have found that their own faith is enriched because of the preparations they make as PSR catechists.
Many parishioners rightly wonder if they know enough to teach. While there is a certain amount of knowledge required (and usually provided by the textbook) the role of a catechist is more of a ‘leading learner’ than an answer book. Both the students and the catechists study the truths of the faith and apply them to their respective life situations with the hopes of greater discipleship.
This summer, take some time and pray about possibly being a catechist in our PSR program. We need people to work with preschoolers, kindergartners, and 1st through 5th graders on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings and Wednesday nights. Call 770-962-2765 and ask for Beth to inquire about volunteering with PSR (Parish School of Religion.)
