“This is my Son, my Chosen One.
Listen to him."
– Luke 9:35
Can you hear me now? Do you remember that popular cell phone slogan? The ability to hear clearly what another is saying is important in any relationship but especially so when that conversation is between you and God. Your relationship with God not only gives meaning to your life but impacts your relationships with others. Adam and Eve didn’t listen to God but the Blessed Virgin Mary did. Mary Magdalene didn’t believe in the Resurrection until Jesus called her name that Easter morning. St. Paul heard Jesus admonish him and became a great apostle.
At his Transfiguration, the Father affirms that Jesus is trustworthy in word and deed when he tell us to listen to him. Jesus is God’s Word spoken to us but unfortunately the demands of life can make us deaf to his voice. Our faith offers many ‘hearing aids’ to be better listeners. Quiet prayer, Mass and the other sacraments, charitable actions, redemptive suffering, spiritual friends and parish programs like those in this brochure can offer you an opportunity to hear anew the Good News of God’s love. What Jesus said to his early followers is just as opportune now as it was then…”My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act upon it.”
