My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
After more than two years of preparations, I am pleased to promulgate our Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan that embodies the recommendations and insights of our people throughout North and Central Georgia. After consulting with our clergy, religious, and laity and following meetings with our Archdiocesan Pastoral Council, Priests’ Council, and each of our ten deaneries, this vision now enjoys the endorsement and support of literally thousands of the people of God of the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
Our Pastoral Plan calls for the active participation of all our parishes and institutions in pursuing these four themes as faith goals for this local Church over the next five or six years:
Knowing Our Faith
Living Our Faith
Sharing/Keeping Our Faith
The Evolution of Our Parishes.
While many of our parishes are already actively engaged in pursuing one or more of these themes, we encourage all of them to share successful programs and activities and to seek cooperative events between neighboring parishes and within deaner groups. Our Chancery staff will be prepared to assist our parishes as they work to respond to these themes. This vision is intended to build on what is already working effectively as well as to encourage new approaches to achieve success on the parish level rather than to impose a pre-designed approach from the Chancery.
The recommendations in this Pastoral Plan address the most frequently identified pastoral needs that touch the hearts of our people today. They seek to strengthen our life of faith and our common future as an Archdiocesan family. I encourage you to read and study the Pastoral Plan [linked below]. I ask to to join me during this blessed Easter season in praying for its success.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
+Wilton D. Gregory
Archbishop of Atlanta
